Tony Arthur has submitted the following:

James Robert Arthur was my father. He served on HMS Janus from 2 August 1939 until 24 April 1942 as an Able Seaman. He left the Royal Navy as PO. in 1947.

He won his DSM at the Battle of the Tarigo Convoy (Sometimes known as the Skirmish of Sfax).

He was from Seghill, Northumberland originally but lived in Sunderland from after the War. He was still alive (in 2017) aged 97 and living in Sunderland.

28th September 2019, aged 99 years, James (Jimmy).
Much loved father of Tony, dear father in law of Rona, loved granda of Simon, Brooke and David, loved great granda of Benjamin, Harrison and Oscar.
Would friends please meet for funeral service at Sunderland Crematorium on Friday
11th October at 2.30pm.

James Robert Arthur is listed in the Scout Roll of Honour 1939-1947 and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
