In Blyth Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of Artificer Engineer Charles Thomas Bright, serving on H.M. Submarine J.6 with the Royal Navy, who died 15/10/1918.

The son of James Bright, of 7, Maryland Road, Stratford, London and the husband of Mabel Bright of 85, Berisford Road, Portsmouth.

The headstone reads:

In loving memory of
my darling husband
Charles Thomas Bright
Artificer Engineer R.N.
who lost his life on submarine J 6
Octr. 15th 1918 aged 40 years.
“Love conquers all”.

He was one of the 15 sailors killed in the sinking of H.M. Submarine J6, on 15th Oct 1918, by Special Service Vessel “Cymric” in a “friendly fire” incident, “Cymric” being No. 101751, a British iron-hulled 228 ton auxiliary-engined topsail schooner or brigantine commanded by Lt. F.H. Peterson, D.S.O., D.S.C., R.N.
