On Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium is the name of 9383 Lance Corporal Henry Glazebrook, serving with the 2nd Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment who died 05/02/1915.

The son of William Henry and Mary Ellen Glazebrook, of 16, Mildmay Road, West Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne. One of three brothers all of whom fell.

Henry Glazebrook was born on the 11th March 1892, and was the eldest son of William Henry Glazebrook of 16 Mildmay Road, West Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne, [now in the postal service, late battery Sergeant Major, R.F.A. who served throughout the South African War, and received the Queen’s and King’s Medals with clasps], and his wife Mary Ellen, daughter of Samuel Stephenson.

Henry was educated at the Council School at Sandyford, and had joined the army on the 15th July 1909. Henry served 5 years in India (1909 1914), then came home with his regiment, and then was sent to France in January 1915. He was killed in action on the 5th February 1915, near St Eloi, where he was buried at the Chateau Rosendale, near Ypres. He had two serving bothers, one in the Army and the other in the Navy.{1916}. He was unmarried.

His pension records state alias Stephenson – his mother’s maiden name.

His brother William Henry died in 1916 and Alfred in 1920.
