On Tower Hill Memorial is the name of Second Engineer Officer Charles Piggford, serving on S.S. Aelybryn with the Merchant Navy who died 11/03/1943.

He was married to Mrs. L.I. Piggford of Sunderland.

The steam merchant vessel SS Aelybryn, ship number 166427, was torpedoed by a German U Boat U160 on a voyage from Calcutta – Cochin – Durban to the UK, carrying 7935 tons of general cargo.

Charles Piggford is remembered at Roker on R50.02, at Sunderland in S140.159 and  in our List of Ships’ Crews.
