D. Bibby
H.M.S. “Cumberland.”
27th September 1918 Age 35

Daniel was born at Crook, the son of Alfred Bibby.

His pension records state he died from pneumonia. His brother George lived at Church Row, Crawleyside, Stanhope, Durham.

Kenneth Bibby tells us that:
I have Dan Bibby’s war records and he received 3 good conduct long service medals between 13 July and 1917, while on H.M.S. Doris and its deployment in the Mediterranean. I have attached part of the record. Unfortunately the ship’s log book is not available on line but the captain went on to be promoted to Admiral. I believe that he was awarded the medals for actions he took part in, also that he died from the flu pandemic as 3 other members of his final ship died on the same day in different parts of the country. His last ship’s log book is available on line but has pages missing from around the time of his death.

Daniel Bibby is not remembered on a local War Memorial.  He is on our List of Ships’ Crews.
