Indexes

From the beginning of the Project the Indexes have been an essential tool for users of the Website. The Indexes have been devised and developed over the years by Janet Brown to be used in conjunction with the War Memorial files on the main Website.

The Indexes are divided into the three county areas, Durham, Newcastle and Northumberland and give details of the memorials to be found alphabetically by village/town.

Each place includes the District name and is divided into sections including Outdoor Memorials, named Churches and Places of Worship, Public Buildings, Clubs and Societies, Education, Businesses, Industry and Military.

The Indexes show where the memorial was originally located and where it is now (if known). They also state whether more information is needed.

There is also a list of buildings where there are no known memorials.

The names of small hamlets are included on the alphabetical list with the name of the nearest town or village where their inhabitants should be included.

The Indexes include a list of articles from the relevant County Notes and the North East Notes Sections.
