Doris Frances Spencer married Birmingham born Harold Kell in Darlington in spring 1915.  Harold was a millwright working at the Darlington Wire Mills on Albert Hill and in 1921 he, Doris and their six year old son, also called Harold, along with 4 year old Robert Stanley, born 6th September 1917, were living with her parents at 43 Dickinson Street.

In summer 1941 Robert married Gladys Marjorie Todd in Yarmouth, Norfolk and they lived at 8 Hazel Way, Gorleston, Norfolk where Robert died from TB on 7th November 1947.

He had served with the Royal Naval Patrol Service based at H.M.S. Pembroke (later H.M.S.Europa) in Lowestoft, Norfolk, which coordinated roughly 6,000 small vessels—including trawlers, drifters, and minesweepers—tasked with keeping coastal waters and shipping lanes clear.
