On the Tower Hill Memorial, London is the name of First Mate Henry Berthold Sheel serving on S.S. “Dunrobin” with the Mercantile Marine  who died 24/11/1917.

He was the son of the late Henry Daniel William and Margaret Sheel (or Scheil) and the husband of Annie Patterson Sheel (or Scheil) (formerly Hayes, nee McKie), of 19, Barnard Street,  Sunderland. He had been born at Sunderland.

In Sunderland (Ryhope Road) Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

Steam cargo ship S.S. Dunrobin was sunk by torpedo from German U-boat 53 en route from Almeria to the Tyne with a cargo of iron ore and grapes.

 Henry Berthold Sheel is remembered at Sunderland on S140.005, S140.082, in S140.48 Part 8 page 177 and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
