On Tower Hill Memorial is the name of Second Engineer Officer Gilbert Hudson serving on S.S. Creekirk with the Merchant Navy  who died 19/10/1940.

In Sunderland (Ryhope Road) Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

In
loving memory of
Elizabeth Ann Hudson
 who died 1st Dec. 1949
aged 65 years

and her dear husband
Gilbert Hudson
who was lost at sea
19th Oct. 1940
aged 55 years.

S.S. Creekirk was part of a convoy which sailed from Nova Scotia bound for Liverpool but was found by U-boats on 16th October.  Three days later northwest of Rockall Creekirk was torpedoed by U-101 and sank quickly with the loss of all crew.
