 In Thornaby on Tees Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 7118/S Stoker Thomas Widdop Dunwell serving on H.M.S. Orvieto with the Royal Naval Reserve who died 27/05/1916.

He was the son of William and Alice Dunwell, of 5, Cuthbert Street Thornaby on Tees.

The headstone reads:-

In Loving Memory
of
Thomas Widdop
Late of H.M.S. Orvieto
Dearly Beloved Son Of
Wm. & Alice Dunwell
Who Died May 27th 1916,
Aged 19 years.

Also of Ben Widdop
Dearly Beloved Son of the Above
Who Died March 10th 1902,
Aged 2 years & 9 mnths.

The Stockton Herald South Durham and Cleveland Advertiser 03/06/1916 reports:-
DUNWELL.—May 27, at Gillingham Hospital, Chatham. Stoker Thomas Widdop (late of H.M. Navy), dearly-beloved son of William and Alice Dunwell, 5, St Cuthbert Street, Thornaby on Tees.
