On Tower Hill Memorial, Trinity Square, London is the name of Chief Engineer Joseph Morris serving on S.S. Sunniva with the Merchant Navy who died 28/06/1918.

He was the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Morris and the husband of Emma Morris, of 5, Bridal Path, East Boldon, County Durham. He was born at South Shields.

Chief Engineer Joseph Morris and Able Seaman Victor Benedictus Olssen, born in Sweden, were the only crew members lost.

Joseph Morris was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Morris, born about 1866 in South Shields.

He was married to Emma and had two sons, Herbert and Frank.

In 1911, the family was living at Croft Avenue, South Shields, and  Joseph was a seagoing Engineer. He served as chief engineer on the “S.S. Sunniva”, a Newcastle-registered ship. The ship was sunk just off the mouth of the Wear on a voyage from London to Newcastle upon Tyne on the 28th June 1918. Joseph’s address at the time of his death is given as 5 Bridle Path. He is commemorated on The Tower Hill Memorial.
