Every Name a Story
On Chatham Naval Memorial is the name of 1602D Seaman James Lewis Witty serving on H.M. Tug Desire with the Royal Naval Reserve who died 24/01/1918.
The Newcastle Journal 06/03/1918 reports:-
James Lewins (sic) Witty, R.N.R., of South Shields latterly of Clara Street, Benwell Newcastle, is reported lost at sea on January 24.
Naval Records state his wife Georgina lived at 76a Clare Street Benwell before moving to 18 Henry Nelson Street South Shields.
