Joseph was the son of Joseph and Isabel Waugh, of Sunderland, and the husband of Marguerite B. Waugh of Hylton.

CWGC gives Joseph’s date of death as April 26th 1946 however his record card gives June 21st which is then crossed out and replaced with April 26th.

The June 21st date of death is confirmed with an entry in the Sunderland Echo 22/06/1946:-
Waugh Garden House. Hylton. June 21 1946. 46 years. Joseph, the beloved husband of Marguerite Waugh Interment Bishopwearmouth Cemetery, Monday, June 24; leaving residence. 3.0 o’clock. Deeply mourned. RIP.

The Betty Hindley on 07/10/1947 was damaged by a mine 3 miles off Scarborough, on a voyage from London to the Tyne in ballast.
Sank under tow, 1.5 miles SE of Scarborough Castle at 54.16.48N – 00.22W.
