On Tower Hill Memorial is the name of Chief Officer Henry Douglas Rudd, D.S.C. serving on S.S. Goolistan (Newcastle upon Tyne) with the Merchant Navy who died 23/11/1942.

He was son of Charles and Margaret Rudd and the husband of Isabella Jane Rudd, of South Shields, Co. Durham.

Henry and ‘Ella’ lived at 37 Roman Road, South Shields.

SS Goolistan was a British Merchant Steamer which was sunk by U-boat U-625, on November 23rd 1942. There were no survivors.

Henry Douglas Rudd is remembered at South Shields on S86.138,  at Westoe in W101.08 page 70 and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
