Memorial Description:

Roll of Honour.

At centre top is the badge flanked by flags.

The Roll itself has a wide background pattern of blue on which are scrolled leaves.

The words “Roll of Honour” are in blue on a scroll at the top.

Freemen of Newcastle are listed below the dedication, and below this again is a list of “Sons of Brethren”.

At the bottom is a wreath containing the words “Pro Patria”.

The lettering of the dedication is in elaborate script.

The names are printed in a single column using Roman capitals for the names and lower case for the other details.

23 names, ranks, regiments and remarks of Freemen;
7 names, ranks, regiments and remarks of Sons of Brethren.

Notes:

1. The photograph of this Roll of Honour was found in a Scrap Book of news cuttings with assorted news clips on theatre actors, Freeman of Newcastle awards and assorted items relating to Newcastle.

2.   The photo was mounted in a frame 8 inches high x 5 inches wide (21.5cms x 13.5cms).  The  photograph is 6 inches high x 4 inches wide (15cms x 10cms).  Beneath this a one inch x one inch (3cms x 3cms)  depiction of the Company Coat of Arms.

3.   One of the names shown is a V.C., winner John Aidan Liddell see his Every Name A Story entry.

4.    What happened to the original Roll of Honour?  In 2012/13 no one had any idea where this was.
