Notes
1. The building was erected in October 1922 but three months later it was burnt down. and had to be rebuilt. It is thought that the fire was caused by the over-heating of the stove, which had been lit in readiness for a whist drive to be held that evening. It had been insured for £300 which formed the basis for a new fund which was augmented by £400 from fund raising and donations.
2. The only regret of the Committee Chairman was that the hut was not central. The aim had been to obtain a site equidistant from the village and colliery but they were unsuccessful.
3. The hut was for the community and for the Women’s Institute. It was proposed to use it for educational purposes as well as social functions.
4. On a visit in 2016 the roof and windows have been renewed and a sloping graded path has been installed.
