Memorial Description

Plaque 140cm high x 60cm wide with square raised at centre top. Around the edge is a border of copper and brass raised into a leaf and seed pod pattern. At centre top is a crucifix also in copper. The central panel is of brass. The names are listed in two columns in sans serif capitals. The dedication at the top and quotation at the bottom are in elaborate capitals.

1. Newcastle Daily Journal 21/01/1920 reports memorial service in the Lady Chapel for C.W. Coyle (K.O.S.B.); Pte. G.R. Mills (Coldstream Guards) and Pte. W.W. Blanch (NF).

2. Mrs. Wilberforce, who unveiled the plaque, was the widow of the late Rev. Ernest Roland Wilberforce, first bishop of Newcastle. The name of their youngest son born at Benwell Tower in 1893, is on the roll. See his Every Name A Story entry
