Unveiled 18th November 1920 by Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Cllr. Rowe; Dedicated by Rev. A.E. Cornibeer.

Memorial Description

Plaque 2 feet 6 inches high x 6 feet wide with a dome over the central panel.
In the centre panel is a cross, with the outline incised. The cross itself is formed of Celtic knot design, carved to stand bold and painted gold, the background in red, with the letters "I.H.C." and "X.P.C." incised in very large Roman capitals and painted black on either side.
The quotation is along the top border, on either side of the dome, formed by carving the letters to stand proud and painted gold, with the background red, this colour carrying on over the dome, where it bears flowers carved and painted gold.
The dedication runs right along the bottom border, with the lettering carved to stand proud and the background painted blue. The names are carved in a single column on each of four panels, two on each side, using Roman capitals.

1. This is one of only two memorials of which we are aware in which the names are listed in alphabetical order by Christian name. The other is in St. Mary Magdelene R.C. Church at Seaham S117.20.
