Memorial Description

Plaque, overall 812mm (32 inches) high by 520mm (20˝ inches) wide, rectangular but with elaborate domed top, and set on an oak pattress of similar shape. Around the perimeter is a fine border made of two thin lines in black. At the top is a laurel wreath, in which are the words "Roll of Honour" in red capitals. A ribbon has been etched to right and left at the base of the wreath. Below this is the name of the Church. The dedication is below this, with the letter T of "To" elongated and coloured red at the front of three of the five lines of dedication wording, which is in elongated serif capitals. The names are listed in four columns, using sans serif upper and lower case lettering throughout. The name of the makers is incised in the bottom frame.

Present condition

Brass somewhat tarnished, and the red paint or enamel fading, but otherwise good.

Notes

1. Savile Street Primitive Methodist Church was opened in 1860, and closed in 1930. The top floor was removed before the building was made into Woolworth's store. See N34.25.

2. The plaque was removed from the vestibule and placed in its present position.

3. Rev. T. Greener gave the address, his topic being "Courage, Sacrifice and Service."
