Notes

1. The 1939-45 memorial was removed from the Grammar School at Fellside, Hexham, when the new school was opened in April 1965. The plaque for 1914-18 was then made to match the one for 1939-45, and the two plaques fixed to the same mounting. The original 1914-18 plaque, which records 113 names of those who served and died, was left in the Fellside School when it became the Middle School.

2. 1The school motto translates as "The hope of the ancestors lives on".

3. In 1965 Hexham’s Queen Elizabeth Grammar School appealed to its Old Boy’s Association to raise £100 to enable war memorials dedicated to ex-pupils to be transferred from the old school to the new premises in Whetstone Bridge Road.
