Memorial Description
Roll of Honour 126.5cm high x 76.5cm wide with triangular top. It is divided into two panels, the left hand one bearing the names from 1914-18 and the right hand one those from 1939-45. Lettering is hand painted in black Roman capitals. The quotation is along the bottom frame. The whole is varnished.

Notes
1. The accuracy of the transcription of the names from the First World War was seriously called into question when the Project, thanks to the Local History Society, was sent an image of the original Roll of Honour -H139.02. A document describing the comparison made is attached further down this page.
2. St. Mary the Virgin Church at Howden-le-Wear was built to serve the Fir Tree Parish and was consecrated October 1869. It's official name was Fir Tree St. Mary and the church closed 27th January 2008. The building has been sold for conversion to residential housing.
