Memorial Description

Roll of Honour on pre-printed card with code no. 577. There is a single line purple border. At centre top is a large cross, with the words “Roll of” and “Honour” on either side, the letters in purple with gold initials. The names are listed in four handwritten columns, using mainly capital letters. At the foot is the invocation “Brethren, pray for us”.

1. “Advice was given to the custodians that County Archives should be approached for information on restoration, or at least conservation, as appropriate techniques may yet yield details of more entries, currently not clear to the naked eye”

2. St. Mary the Virgin Church at Howden-le-Wear was built to serve the Fir Tree Parish and was consecrated October 1869. It's official name was Fir Tree St. Mary and the church closed 27th January 2008. The building has been sold for conversion to residential housing.
