Memorial Description

Cross, rough hewn on a tapering pedestal 2 feet 8 inches high resting on a step 6 inches high, set in gravel inside a kerb. Smoothed granite panels have been inserted to take the dedications on the tapering shaft of the cross, and to bear the names on the sides of the pedestal.
To the rear of the cross, an upright stone slab 2 feet 6 inches high x 2 feet 7 inches wide of the same design has been erected for the 1939-45 names, the names being listed in a single column.
Lettering is in sans serif capitals.

Notes

1. The name of G.C. Stainthorpe was corrected to G.O. Stainthorpe in 1995. The mistake was discovered when William Stainthorpe, brother to the man named on the memorial, saw it when attending a funeral. His daughter approached Hurworth Parish council who paid for the alteration.
