Original Location

St. Andrew’s Church, Haughton Road / Salters Lane South. In Churchyard, in small triangular plot east of the church, facing down the main street of the old village.

Unveiled 7th October 1920 by Lt.Col. G.O. Spence. Dedicated by Rev. R.C. Fellowes, rector.

Memorial Description

Cross of runic type, total height 10 feet, with encircled head standing on a pedestal 3 feet 6 inches x wide x 2 feet 7 inches deep x 3 feet high which is on one step. The whole rests on a squared pavement within a triangular grassed area with flowerbeds. Marble plaques 2 feet high and 2 feet 5 inches wide tapering to 3 feet 2 inches have been added to the sides of the pedestal to carry the inscriptions. The dedication is on the front. The names are in a single column on the sides. The lettering is in sans serif capitals.

In grateful memory / of the 18 men of Barmpton, / Great Burdon and Haughton-le-Skerne / who by the grace of God / gave their lives in the Great War / 1914-1919.
Their bodies are buried in peace, / but their name liveth for evermore.
