Memorial Description

Roll of Honour, 36 inches high x 24 inches wide (914mm x 609mm), in a wide wood frame. At centre top is the Union flag, with a blue scroll either side bearing the words "Roll of Honour" in gold Roman capitals. Other lettering is in red and blue. The names of the dead with details of service and death are below the title. Beneath this are the names of those who served, listed in two columns. All lettering is done by hand in black ink.

Pro Patria Roll of Honour / of the Members and Adherents of / Branton / Presbyterian Church of England / who served in the war / during the years 1914-1918.
Great love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. St. John XV.13.
Bear ye one another's burdens and so fulfil the law of Christ. Gal.VI.2.
Names of those who / fell in action or died of wounds or disease. Names of others who also joined the Colours.

Notes

1. Unspecified number of private tablets including one for a Major who was killed in action.

2. When the church building became a private dwelling, c 1980, the memorial tablets were, where possible, returned to the families concerned. As it is not known who the families concerned are, the present location and condition of the tablets is unknown. Nor is it known how many tablets were returned to families, and what happened to any remaining ones.

3. The last service was conducted in Branton United Reformed Church on 28th May, 1978.
