Memorial Description

Stained glass window of single light 8 feet 6 inches high x 1 foot 8 inches wide depicting the Mother Mary with child. The dedication is carried along the bottom in elaborate lower case script.

Remember ye in the Lord, Henry William Roberts,
Captain, the 98th Regt. who died 12th May 1918:
also Gerard C. Roberts Colonel 14th Battn.,
the Gloucestershire Regt. who was killed in action
in France 8th June 1916; also Frederick J. Roberts,
Major 2nd Battn. the Queen’s Regt. who was killed
in action in France 17th October 1915.

Notes

1. Capt. Roberts was the father, the other two his sons. It would seem that the father died towards the end of the war knowing two sons had been killed.

2. Below the window there is a brass plaque dedicated to Annie Chipchase Roberts who died in 1924.

3. It would appear that the window was unveiled before the Faculty was issued.

4. The window appears to read "Frederick I. Roberts" but this should be "Frederick J." Look at the word June which appears to be spelled "Iune".
CWGC entry is for "Frederick John".

5. Both sons are remembered on D47.125
