Unveiled 4th July 1920 by Sir George Trevelyan, Bart., of Wallington Hall.

Memorial Description

Obelisk about 16 feet high, slightly tapered, draped with with a carved laurel wreath. The obelisk rests on a square pedestal (66 cm square) which has the names incised on two of its faces, with the dedication incised on the third. The letters are in Roman capitals apart from the words "To the Undying memory of" which are elaborate capitals in an arc at the top. The whole rests on three sandstone steps.

Materials used

British grey granite and bronze.

Estimated at £167.

Present condition

Good. Repaired after a falling tree broke it in half.

Ownership and maintenance

Unclear as to whether responsibility rests with the Parish Council or the National Trust, who own the village.

Notes

1. People who died during the 1939-45 war in Cambo district are included in Kirkwhelpington's memorial, as Cambo had become part of that parish.
