Memorial Description

Cross of Latin type, plain and slender, slightly tapering stem, about 8 feet (3 m) tall, and about 10 inches square at the base of the stem. The edges are chamfered. The cross stands on a stone block 3 feet (216 mm) cubed. On the west face is the dedication, on the north face are the names of 1914-18 and on the south face are those from 1939-1945. The stone block is placed on two shallow steps, which in turn are in a semi-circular base. All lettering is incised in Roman capitals throughout. There are flower tubs on the steps and round about.

Sandstone throughout.

Good. Stone needs cleaning.

Ownership and maintenance

Ownership uncertain; Parish Council only Borough Council cut grass only.

Notes

1. The Berwick Advertiser 26/09/1919 reports:- The decision of the public meeting held on March 19th 1919 that a Memorial Window or Tablet be placed in the parish church was reconsidered and after other proposals had been debated it was finally decided to erect a suitable Monument to the fallen in a central position in the village.
