Memorial Description

Book of Remembrance. It is bound in red leather with a gold cross tooled on the front. The flyleaf is headed by a painting of St.Catherine with the name of the Church forming a circle around her. The dedication below is hand painted in red. There is a page for each month on which the names of those who died are handwritten. The month is in red and the names and the year are in black.

The book sits in a very plain glass-topped oak showcase below the plaque for 1914-18. The Thompson of Kilburn mouse is at the bottom of the left front leg.

Book supplied by J. Wippell of Exeter, and written by C.A. Howard. Case made by Thompson’s of Kilburn. Completed on 3/10/1960

Notes

1. Faculty allowed for the introduction of a remembrance book and oak case. Case to be about 4’ high, not to be inscribed, and made by Thompson’s of Kilburn. The inscription on the book to be….”Herein are inscribed the names of those of this parish and congregation who made the Supreme Sacrifice in the years 1939 – 1945 and Korea 1951 – 1953”. The book was to have 28 pages, approximately 15” by 9”, bound in red leather with title page, pen lettering in red and black below a figure of St Catherine superimposed on a broken wheel, all gold to be raised and burnished, all penscript in black.
