Unveiled 11th June 1919 by Lord Bishop of Durham.
Stained glass window of two lights featuring (left top) St.Alban above a scene showing his Martyrdom by Roman troops at Verulamium and (right) Caedmon with a book above a scene of Caedmon's dream. The dedication is carried across the bottom of both lights in white lettering using Roman capitals.
The top left hand window designed by Burne-Jones, the bottom left and right top and bottom designed by Henry Dearle; glass made by Morris and Co. London.
1. "Le jour viendra” - “The day will come” - is the motto of the Lambton family.
2. This was one of a set of three windows to members of the Lambton family, two men who died in the war and Sarah May Reynolds, who died in 1917.
3. Francis Lambton was the youngest brother of the Earl of Durham. He is remembered on

4. “The figures of Oswald and Alban designed by Burne Jones were made by Morris & Co from cartoons drawn in 1875 for Speldhurst in Kent. Burne Jones died in 1898 and Henry Morris & Co continued using his cartoons. After Burne Jones' death Henry Dearle was the chief designer and continued drawing new cartoons, very much in the style of Burne Jones.”
