Notes

1. “A war shrine containing the names of 127 men who are serving with the Forces has been erected at Marsden. Eighteen have won distinctions and 15 have made the supreme sacrifice. From Marsden Colliery 1,474 men went to the colours, of whom 184 have been killed.”

2. This sounds very much like a design which was popular, and there are several in the region. These were purchased from Hughes Bolckow who were breaking up the H.M.S. Britannia in Blyth. For a typical example, see Blyth B42.01.
