Memorial Description

Plaque with slightly rounded top set on a wood pattress which echoes the shape. There is a very narrow border punctuated at intervals with a small motif. In each top corner is a bunch of grapes and vine leaves. At centre top is a wreath with ribbons. All decoration is raised in half relief. Names are in two columns in raised Roman capitals.

To the memory of Chillingham / Road School boys who fell / in the Great War 1914-1919.
“Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori”.

Notes

1. The unveiling should have been performed by Major General Sir R.A.K. Montgomery, but he was ill and unable to attend. The headmaster, Mr. Gillespie, was also absent through illness.
