Names

Who commissioned

War Memorial Committees of Hartlepool (Town Clerk Mr. J.H. Smith) and West Hartlepool (Mr. R.D. Lambert, Borough Treasurer).

Sculptor, Artist or Designer

Compiled by Mr. S.T. Coulson Printed by Alexander Salton Ltd., Argus Works, West Hartlepool.

Notes

1. The book was compiled for the purpose of obtaining names to be placed on memorials in Hartlepool and West Hartlepool.

2. Relatives and friends were requested to look at the entries and correct them for accuracy.

3 . Confusion could be caused by the fact that both places had streets with the same name.

4. The book was sold for 1/- per copy.

5. The book includes men from Mercantile Marine and Trawler Services as well as the serving Forces.

6. “Roll of Honour brought up to date by Mr. Coulson of Church Street, West Hartlepool. A copy of the Roll has been sent to the cure of the Public Libraries in each Borough”. This suggests that there were other copies. This is an early date.

7. The copy in Durham Light Infantry Museum and Art Gallery has been transferred to Durham Record Office
