Memorial Description

Cross of Celtic type, total height 15 feet high. The cross is 8 feet high. The two-stepped slightly tapering pedestal which bears the inscription is about 6 feet high. The stone monument stands on two sandstone octagonal bases of 10 feet diameter and 12 feet diameter respectively, and these in turn rest on a bed of stones approx. 20 feet diameter. The names are listed in a single column on the front and two side faces, with a further two on the side of the top step. The lettering is in sans serif capitals , with the exception of the words "Lest we forget", which are in Gothic lettering.
The monument is in a small garden, fronted by a stone wall between two pillars and wrought iron gate at centre.

Notes

1. The low wall originally had a railing each side of the gate. This presumably was removed in 1939-45 for scrap, being replaced by a wooden one. The gate remains, presumably the same one.

2. The original idea was for a bridge over the Ewesley Burn, with two slabs bearing the names of local men who joined the colours and those who fell. Mr. J.S. Trevelyan gave the stone to build the bridge.
