Unveiled Good Friday 1925 by Capt. E.A. Laing Gibbon (D.L.I.) of Newcastle. Dedicated by Rev. J. Burdon, Vicar of Killingworth.

Memorial Description

Statue of Angel of Victory approx. 6m high. In her right hand she is holding aloft a laurel wreath, whilst in her right arm is a flag pole with the flag draped over her arm. She stands on a granite block on stepped sandstone base, behind iron railings. The main pedestal bears the dedication on the front, with a bronze laurel wreath attached at the top. The names are listed in a single column on each of the remaining three faces. All lettering is of lead and attached to the face, using sans serif capitals throughout.

Notes

1. “My brother was asked to draw the angel for a War Memorial. Known as 'Drewie' he was Andrew Scoular. He was in his final year at Dame Allan's Boys' School. The school was then in College Street, Newcastle. His design was used but the ten shillings he was promised was never paid." (Mrs. Arkell)
