Memorial Description

Roll of Honour in rosewood frame. 'Surrounded by 30 photograph circular portraits of the men on three sides, and centre top is a neat little photographic photo, illustrative of the days of Caxton'. Below the Association Coat of Arms.

Materials used

Overall size including the Dark rosewood frame. 33 inches (838mm) wide X 39 inches (1.00m) long. 30 Portraits. Mounting card 3mm thick overlaid Hand calligraphed painting and coloured lettering.

Newcastle and District branch of the Typographical Association.
Roll of Honour in memory of those members who made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War 1914-19.

Notes

1. Of 650 journeyman of the Typographical Association in all local branches, 300 enlisted.

2. Honours gained were Croix de Guerre Bomb. E.F. Cook, (R.G.A.); M.M. Co.Q.M. Sergt J.H. Cunningham (K.O.R.L.); Pte Hogg, (13th R.F.) and Cpl. G. Lyall (MGC).; M.S.M. Sgt.Maj. Thomas Tinlin, (A.S.C.); Regt. Sgt. Maj. George Young (R.F.A.).

3. This was returned to the North East to the Tyne and Wear Archive offices by an anonymous donor from the South of England where apparently 'it did not fit in'. 2018.

4. This ROH had been missing for over 30 years, and we were told it had been destroyed. Quote 2002.

5. The 30 portraits are inset alphabetical anti clockwise by Surname from the top centre.

6. The Memorial was finished on the 20th March 1920 file ref 6564.

7. The Tyne and Wear Archive offices ref is TU.TA1/27.
