Memorial Description

Roll of honour in massive oak frame with gilt facings. “Inset are the symbolic figures of Faith and Victory above illustrated scroll work and within are the names of the soldiers of Littletown, the roll of glorious dead occupying a centre panel”.

Notes

1. Of the 68 men from Littletown itself, 11 had died and 21 were wounded.

2. “Although their parish was a little one it had done as much and more than any parish in the land. £7,000 had been raised by 2,000 members of the War Savings Association, and when the call for men came, 250 men made a willing response”.

3. Cllr. P. Lee who unveiled the memorial was Peter Lee after whom the new town of Peterlee was named. He was elected Chairman of Durham County Council in 1919.

4. The Institute was for the miners.

The layout of this memorial is unknown.  The layout presented here is 
suggested by the description in the Durham Advertiser, which stated that the
names of those who died were in the centre panel.  
The accuracy of the names cannot be guaranteed, as they were taken from the
