a. Unveiled 31st July 1921 by Col. E.P.A. Riddell, CMG, DSO., Commander Northumberland Infantry Brigade. Dedicated by Rev. A.S. Wardroper.

Memorial Description

Obelisk 20 feet high with tapering sides and bronze wreath on the front near the top. The dedication appears on the front of the top part of the pedestal, which measures 175cm high x 254cm wide. The lower half of the pedestal bears the names. The single name from 1939-45 has been added at the bottom of the list. On the stone at the foot is the quotation. All lettering is in Roman capitals.

Good. The pavement in front was relaid and two flower tubs added in 2000.

Designed by Messrs. Harrison, Ash and Blythe of Ashington; built by J.H. Robinson of Meldon.

Notes

1. The order of service for unveiling includes the names of "Those who Served and Live to Serve Another Day" and lists 26 names, ranks and regiments. See names list.

2. It was originally intended to place the memorial in the churchyard, but a suitable site could not be found.
