Memorial Description

Plaque 113cm. high x 63cm wide resting on a black pattress. There is an "overhanging" top, slightly domed, beneath which is a laurel wreath carved in half relief. The names are listed under "Those who gave their lives" and "Those who served". All lettering is in sans serif capitals, incised and painted black, with the list headings in italics.

1. Frederick Edgar was born 15/11/1887. His father farmed at Ayle, and was a well-known and respected preacher.
2. Marshall Jackson, his unmarried brother Smith and sister Isabella lived at Knowe Head Farm, Knarsdale.
3. Eric Maughan was a bank clerk in Alston for many years. He lived outside Alston (?Newshield). Walton Maughan may have been his uncle.
4. Arthur Tarn lived with his brother and sister-in-law, Matt and Molly Tarn, at Clargyll Foot Farm. He never married, and went blind. Mark Tarn, mentioned on the "In Memoriam" page was possibly his brother.
