Dedicated 19th June 1954 by Rt.Rev. A.M. Ramsey, Bishop of Durham.
Memorial Description
Lychgate of stained oak resting on limestone walls, and green Westmorland slates with gates to the front. The pitched roof is finished in grey slate. The inscription above the entrance gate reads : “I am the Resurrection and the Life”.
There are two plaques, one attached to each side pillar.
The left hand one, for 1914-18, bears the names in two columns.
The right hand one, for 1939-45, bears the names in a single column.
The lettering is finished in white capitals.
Materials used
Freestone from Springwell Colliery; oak wood from Lambton Estate. Oak gate, stone walls, copper plaques.

Lumley Colliery Welfare Committee gave £140.

Designed by Hicks and Charlwood, Architects.
Stonework carried out by Dunelm Granite Co. Woodwork by Thompson and Sons of Chester-le-Street.
Notes
1. It seems possible that the plaques were formerly inside the memorial hall which has now gone.
2. Among those attending the dedication was Mr. T.R. Lowerson “who helped to build it".
