Unveiled 5th July 1925 by Lord Daryngton, dedicated by the Bishop of Durham.

Memorial Description

Plaque 406mm (1 foot 4 inches) high x 906mm (3 feet) wide x set on pattress 1.32m (4 feet 4 inches) high x 1.39m (4 feet 7 inches) wide. Of classical design, (“early 18th century”) there is an ornate setting for the badge of the Durham Light Infantry, highlighted in colour. There is a raised border surrounding the plain black panel at centre on which the dedication is set in gilded Roman lettering.

BRIGADIER GENERAL ROLAND BOYS BRADFORD V.C., M.C.
2nd Batt. the Durham Light Inft. who at the age of 23, the
youngest brigadier general in
the British Army, was killed in the Great War at the
Battle of Cambrai 30 Nov 1917
"Passed out of sight of men by the path of duty
and self sacrifice"
