a. Unveiled 13th November 1920 by Lieut.Col. G. Pollard, CMG., DSO., of Seaton Delaval, a native of Cleadon; dedicated by Rev. R.P. Moorsom, Vicar of Cleadon.

Memorial Description

Stone slab, rough hewn. At the top is a laurel wreath carved in half relief. Below this is a panel outlined with a carved border of oak leaves. At the top is the 1914-18 dedication. Below this are the names of those who died listed in three columns. Under these are the names of those who served, also listed in three columns. Lettering is in sans serif capitals.

Pink Heworth stone with South Wales green slate panels.

Notes

1. There is a very small plaque on the left hand side which reads “Thos. Curry, Sculptor, South Shields.”

2. The Shields Daily Gazette describes the memorial as “a large rockery, on the summit of which is a mammoth boulder stone with a large brass tablet inset bearing the names of the honoured men”.
