Memorial Description

Chancel window and plaque. The plaque is of white marble set with a bronze frame. The whole is set on a brown mottled marble pattress. The bronze frame has a pattern of leaves raised in half relief. At centre top is a wreath with the Royal coat arms inside.
The inner border is made of gold mosaic, which is also used to divide the plaque into panels, five vertical ones bearing the names, in a single column on each, and one horizontal one across the top bearing the dedication. At centre bottom is a gold wreath. The lettering is in Roman capitals.

To the glory of God the chancel window was erected in 1920 as a memorial / to the members of this church who served their country during / the Great War 1914-1919.
This tablet records their names / and the central column the names of those who laid down their lives.

Notes

1. In 1993 the two Methodist Churches in Bishop Auckland- the Wesley Church, Newgate Street and Central Methodist Church, Cockton Hill Road joined together at the Cockton Hill Road premises as Bishop Auckland Methodist Church. The Newgate Street premises became the Four Clocks Centre.
