Memorial Description

Roll of Honour 56 inches high x 45 inches wide, (1420mm x 1140mm) with carved decoration along the top and bottom edges and Tudor roses raised in half relief down each side border. There are four panels, two above two, with lettering incised. The top two bear the names of those who died, the bottom two the names of those who served. The words "The following also served" appear in the top of the bottom left hand panel, and "Pro Patria" appear at the bottom of the lower right panel. Lettering is carved to stand proud in sunken cartouches using sans serif capitals. The quotation, at the centre, is in elaborate capitals.

Sculptor, Artist or Designer

Designed by Mr. Bertram of Newcastle College. Intended to be done by Alnham Wood carving class, but see Note 1 below.

Notes

1. Compare with Roll of Honour at Wingates W58.01 Was it made by the same man?

2. This was removed for safe keeping in 2000 by Mr. Mellentin of Netherton Village, who was concerned that it might be lost when the hall was sold. He has also painted it with background colours and the lettering gilded.
