Notes
1. Mr. H. Nelson of the maker’s firm played the organ during the service and also at a concert held in the evening.
2. A full description of all the notes and stops on the organ are given in Consett Guardian but the copy to hand is torn, so no effort has been made to transcribe these.
3. Of 20 members who were at the front, only one survived: Mr. Alfred Richards, an employee of the Annfield Plain Co-operative Society.
4. Capt Angus, in his address, referred to the “Useful nature of the memorial, as against the dumb, uninspiring memorials erected up and down the country”.
5. Tom Ayer says: "Annfield Plain United Methodist Chapel was opened in 1905 and closed in 1937. The building was then used for many years as Annfield Plain Masonic Hall, until the lodge closed in recent years. Nowadays it is in private ownership and used as a warehouse, I think. Its location was at the north end of the street known as "The Cements", or Cement Houses or Cement Row or Morrison Cottages, but these were demolished some years ago and the area is grass. At the other side of the building is a car bodywork repair garage and opposite it is the street known as South View."
