Memorial Description

Roll of Honour. In the top corners are pictures of Alnwick and Berwick bridges. Medallions around the border contains paintings of Shilbottle, Longhoughton and other places where members lived. The centre panel contains the names of the fallen.

Notes

1. Of 450 members, 210 joined, of whom 34 died.

2. In 1916 the National Independent Order of Oddfellows “Loyal Alnwick Castle Lodge” met alternate Saturdays in Bondgate Church Schoolroom, 7.30-9.30. Secretary Mr. J. Dixon. Treasurer, Mr. Jas. McCutcheon. Registered Office 35 Bondgate Without. (This would be the United Methodist Church which was demolished to make way for the expansion of Blackshaw’s Garage next to the Plough Hotel).
In 1934 the Oddellows were still meeting every 4th Saturday 6-8 pm. J. Dixon was still secretary, the treasurer was W.S. Cronan. The registered office was Bondgate Without. (Letter from Alan Bowden)
