Memorial Description

Book of Remembrance (“Liber Vitae”) approximately 12 x 9½ inches, bound in dark red leather with a gold cross.
The flyleaf is highly decorated with – at top – the shields of Scotland and England, with the dedication below.
The names are listed in a single column on each page, with a note of which area of Boldon they came from.
The case 10 x 12½ x 3¼ inches which contains the book has a sunken panel on the top which contains a hall-marked silver St.Cuthbert type cross with the words “St.Nicholas Church Boldon” at the crossing. On each of the four arms is a single word: “In” “manus” “”mias” “domine”. It has Celtic style silver fittings on all sides, and a carrying handle at each end. Above these fittings a hall-marked silver band runs around the box bearing a four-line verse in sans serif capitals: “These men of ours, unselfish, unafraid, / went to the world wide fight / for England and the right / Forget not how they fought and how we prayed”
