1. “That the total number of women and officials (from the Seaton Carew Iron Co) who enlisted in the various Services was 404, out of 700. Of these, 39 gave their lives for their country, and 42 wounded were discharged'' The Hartlepools and the Great War. Page 206

2. The following military distinctions have been awarded to members of staff :
Lieut. A. K. Steel: M.C.
Sergt. J. Cassell: M.M.
Sergt. R. Hutchinson: M.M.
Sapper F. Jacques: M.M.
Gunner W. A. Sewell: D.S.M.
The firm and its workmen made a presentation of a suitably inscribed gold watch to each of these distinguished soldiers as a tribute of admiration to their valour. Ibid. page 207
