Notes
1. The monument is in commemoration of the centenary of the Fontburn Reservoir. It represents three things:
a. The future by the burial of a time capsule to be unearthed in a hundred years’ time.
b. The present by the use of the sundial.
c. The past by the remembrance of the dead of the Great War.
2. The Fontburn Community were saddened by the loss of the original memorial (See F48.01) and decided to replace it as part of the Centenary celebrations. This led to research which uncovered more names of men who were not named on the original memorial.
3. On the top of the pedestal is a sundial, made by Tony Moss of Lindisfarne Sundials, Bedlington. The gnomon has been designed to carry a representation the old disused railway viaduct nearby. Alongside is a depiction of Aquarius (the water carrier) with the sun, moon and stars around.
