Grant, G., A/Smn., 1917
In Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension, Nord is the Commonwealth War Grave of Tyneside Z/3993 Able Seaman, George Grant, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 26/02/1917.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

George was born on 27th July 1886. He was working as a miner living with his parents, George and Mary at New Square, Chapel House, Seghill when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 15th March 1915.

He joined the Hood Battalion in France on 16th December 1916 and was then detached to the 8th Entrenching Battalion on 16th January 1917.

George died in the 1st Canadian Casualty Clearing Station at 11.15 pm on 26th February 1917 from "Heart failure precipitated by early stage Trench Nephritis."

His name does not appear on the local memorial.
